Pradhan Mantri Matritva Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) – Rs. 6000 Pregnancy Aid Scheme

The Pradhan Mantri Matritva Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) was first known by the Indira Gandhi Matritva Sahyog Yojana (IGMSY). This scheme is a maternity benefit program run by the Government of India. This 2010 was implemented by the Ministry of Women and Child Development. It is a conditional cash transfer scheme for pregnant and lactating women of 19 years or more for the first two live births. It provides partial wages compensation to women for the wage-loss during birth and child care and provides conditions for safe delivery and good nutrition and feeding practices. Under the Pradhan Mantri Matritva Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), the government has made a provision of Rs. 6000. Like many other central government welfare schemes, the government has also included “Prime Minister” in the name of this scheme.

Pradhan Mantri Matritva Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) – Objectives

This is a government plan. This scheme will help pregnancy and pregnant women in many ways, the plan has two main objectives.

  • Providing partial compensation to the working women for the loss of their wages and ensuring their proper restraint.
  • Reduce the effect of under-nutrition through improving health of pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers and cash incentives.

The Pradhan Mantri Matritva Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) was named as the Indira Gandhi Mercantile Cooperation Scheme during the reign of UPA (Congress), it has been given its second name. This scheme will be implemented by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Central Government.

Prime Minister’s Maternity Vandana Scheme – Benefits

These plans are for pregnant and lactating women only, the benefits of this scheme are as follows:

  • Prior to this scheme, pregnant women and lactating mothers will be benefitted for the surviving child’s birth.
  • The benefit amount received through this scheme will be sent directly to the beneficiary’s bank account through the DBT mode.

According to the report, the government will pay the following amount in instalments.

1st instalment: 1000 at the time of pregnancy registration

2nd instalment: If they have done at least one preterm laboratory after six months of pregnancy then Rs 2,000.

3rd instalment: When the birth of a child is registered and the child has the first vaccine, including BCG, OPV, DPT and hepatitis B

The Prime Minister’s Maternity Vandana Scheme (PMMVY) will not be applicable for pregnant women and lactating mothers of low grade.

  • Women who are in regular employment with central or state government or any public sector undertaking, will not get the benefit of this scheme.
  • People who are equal beneficiaries under any other scheme or law

Pradhan Mantri Matritva Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) Budget

The total budget of this scheme will be Rs. 12661 crores which will be implemented between January 2017 and March 2020. In the total amount, Rs 7,932 crore will be borne by the Central Government while the remaining amount will be provided by the concerned State Governments.
